Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has held talks with former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots football development in Ghana.
The meeting took place at the minister’s office in Accra and focused on strategies to identify, nurture and develop talent at the lower levels of the game.
Grassroots development has been identified as a key priority by the Sports Ministry, with the aim of building a sustainable pipeline for the national teams.
Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, was accompanied by his elder brother Baffour Gyan and his manager Samuel Anim Addo during the courtesy call.
In a statement after the meeting, Adams highlighted the importance of drawing on the experience of former players who have performed at the highest level.
“Yesterday, I had the honour of hosting Ghana’s football legend, Asamoah Gyan, a man whose name echoes across continents, not just for goals scored, but for the hope he inspired in a generation,” Adams said.
He added: “Our discussion focused on deepening grassroots sports development and leveraging his wealth of experience across football and philanthropy.”
The minister also expressed optimism about Gyan’s potential contribution to national football development beyond his playing career.
“His continued passion for youth, sports, and community impact remains unmatched, and we are excited about the role he can play in our national strategy,” Adams stated.
Gyan scored 51 goals for Ghana and remains one of the country’s most influential football figures.
“Asamoah Gyan’s legacy is still being written, this time off the pitch. And we’re proud to walk that journey with him,” Adams concluded.
