The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a record 20 media rights partnerships covering more than 30 European territories for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), significantly expanding the tournament’s reach across the continent.
The tournament will kick off on Sunday, December 21, 2025, in Morocco, and the new broadcast agreements will ensure the competition is accessible to millions of viewers across Europe. CAF says the record number of partnerships underlines the growing global appeal and commercial strength of African football.
AFCON will feature the best of African talent and passion, with the expanded coverage allowing fans across Europe, including the African diaspora, to follow the tournament live. The deals represent a major step in CAF’s broader strategy to increase the visibility, reach, and value of its competitions worldwide.
Among the headline agreements is a landmark deal with Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, which will broadcast all 52 matches free-to-air for the first time. In Spain, CAF has secured a new partnership with Movistar, one of the country’s leading sports broadcasters, a move expected to attract strong viewership given Spain’s close football ties with Morocco and its sizeable Moroccan community.
The tournament will also return to Greek free-to-air television through a new deal with ERT, offering nationwide coverage for the first time in several years. In Norway, AFCON will be shown free-to-air for the first time via VGTV.
Broadcasters such as Sport Italia and Ziggo Sport, which recorded strong audiences in Italy and the Netherlands during the previous AFCON, are expected to grow viewership further, supported by large Moroccan communities and prominent Moroccan players in European leagues. SportDigital will continue coverage across the DACH region, including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
The agreements, facilitated in partnership with IMG, cover 24 teams competing in 52 matches across nine stadiums, as Africa’s flagship tournament returns to the global spotlight.
