Grêmio forward Francis Amuzu has suggested that a call-up to Ghana’s Black Stars for the 2026 FIFA World Cup could be on the horizon later this year.
Ghana have already secured qualification for the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and Amuzu says he is now open and ready to represent the West African nation.
Speaking to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad, the 25-year-old reflected on a difficult start to life in Brazil, admitting his move to Grêmio was far from straightforward.
“I’ve played very little for Grêmio. So I considered going back to Anderlecht in the summer," he revealed." Anderlecht is my hometown, so it was definitely an option for me.
“I told my agent, and we were in touch, but it never materialised.”
While Amuzu and his family settled quickly off the pitch, his early months on the field proved challenging. He struggled for minutes, spent time on the bench and was at one stage left out of the matchday squad entirely.
However, his fortunes improved in September, with the winger becoming a regular feature in the team since then.
“The league starts again next weekend. I want to continue on the same path as last season,” he says. “Who knows, I might even be able to go to the World Cup with Ghana.”
Amuzu remains under contract with Grêmio until the end of the year, but his long-term ambition is to secure a move to one of Europe’s top leagues.
A former teammate of Manchester City star Jeremy Doku, Amuzu is now hopeful of finally earning a Black Stars opportunity, having previously declined invitations under former head coaches Kwasi Appiah and CK Akonnor.
