Head coach of Medeama SC Ibrahim Tanko has shared his excitement after defeating Samartex 1996 in the round 16 tie to secure a place in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup competition.
The match, held at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa ended in a pulsating goalless draw after regular time, forcing the teams to settle the tie via penalty shootouts.
However, it was the Yellow and Mauve who prevailed with a 4-2 victory on penalties, ensuring qualification to the last eight of the Cup competition this season.
The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but failing to find the back of the net.
“It feels good qualifying to the quarterfinal of the FA Cup. Samartex is a very tough team to play but we are to earn qualification over them” he said.
Medeama SC held their nerve, converting four of their kicks, while the Timbers Boys managed to convert only two of their kicks. The win sees the Yellow and Mauve advancing to the quarterfinal of the competition, whereas Samartex bows out.
With this victory, Medeama continue their impressive run and will look to build momentum as the FA Cup competition heats up.
Medeama SC will take on Division One League side Attram De Visser Academy in the last eight of the competition in a date yet to be decided by both FA Cup Committee and the Ghana Football Association.
