Black Starlets continued their encouraging preparations for the upcoming U17 Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 victory over Semper Fi in their second friendly match on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The game marked Ghana’s second outing of the day following an earlier 1-0 win over Zone Three leaders Port City FC, and their fourth friendly within two weeks as the technical team intensifies efforts to sharpen match fitness and tactical cohesion ahead of the tournament in Morocco this April.
Ghana took control early and opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Clement Agyei rose above his markers to head home from a well-delivered ball. The early goal allowed the Starlets to dictate the tempo with confidence and attacking purpose.
Seven minutes before halftime, forward Gab Beng Amponsah doubled the lead after skillfully beating his defender and calmly finishing past the goalkeeper to give Ghana a comfortable advantage at the break.
Semper Fi, who are second in Zone Three of the Division One League, tightened up defensively in the second half to prevent further damage, with Agyei coming closest to adding another when he struck the woodwork.
The match forms part of an intensive schedule that has also included friendlies against True Democracy FC and Na God FC at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, as the Starlets fine-tune preparations for the continental competition.
