Black Stars goalkeepers’ trainer Fatawu Dauda has eulogized Hearts of Oak captain, Benjamin Asare, highlighting his focus, humility and willingness to learn as key traits behind his steady rise.
The 33-year-old shot stopper is currently the first-choice goalkeeper for the West African powerhouse, who are gearing up for the 2026 World Cup tournament.
Asare recently delivered a top-class performance, contributing to Hearts of Oak’s narrow victory over Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.
In interview, the former Ghana shot stopper revealed that he maintains close communication with Asare, offering guidance and technical feedback to help sharpen his development at both club and national team levels.
“I’ve been in that position before. Because he’s in the team as a Black Stars player, and that’s my department, so anytime they play the game, I get in touch with him, with his goalkeeper coach. We share ideas, we give feedbacks for the way how he can improve as a goalkeeper and as an individual. So I keep advising him to stay focused becauseâ¦
So I think he’s doing well for himself and for his club. Being a captain, a leader, and then a commander, you know, it’s not easy. For that position, definitely, you know, you need to be criticised if things are not going well. That’s how it should be. But for now, I think he’s staying focused because it’s someone who will listen. He talked to me listening. So he’s a fast learner, he’s coachable. So I’m happy for him. He’s doing well for his club and for himself.” He told 3Sports.
Dauda stressed that leadership, particularly from the goalkeeping position carries immense responsibility and constant scrutiny. Despite that, he is confident that Asare has the mentality and composure to cope with pressure, accept criticism, and continue improving his game.
The backing from the Black Stars goalkeepers trainer reflects growing belief within the national team setup that Asare is progressing in the right direction, evolving not only into a reliable presence between the posts but also into a commanding leader capable of organising his defence with confidence and authority.
