Asante Kotoko captain Samba O'Neil Ndongani is grieving the loss of his mother, a devastating blow for the defender who has been a pillar of strength for the Porcupine Warriors since arriving in Ghana.
The club confirmed the news, offering its support to the Congolese centre-back and his family during this difficult time. Kotoko described the moment as deeply painful, not just for Ndongani but for a squad that looks to him as a leader.
Since joining from Rahimo FC in 2024, Ndongani has grown into one of Kotoko's most reliable figures. His presence at the back, his composure, and his ability to organise those around him earned him the captain's armbandâa responsibility he has carried with quiet dignity.
This season alone, he has made 22 league appearances and scored four goals. In the CAF Confederation Cup, he featured four times and found the net once before Kotoko's campaign ended in the second preliminary round.
In total, the defender has played 56 matches for the club, with five goals and one assist to his name.
But numbers feel distant at a moment like this.
For now, football steps aside. Ndongani mourns, and Kotoko mourns with him.
