Young Apostles dealt a significant blow to Bibiani Gold Stars’ title ambitions with a convincing victory at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
The hosts made a dream start and raced into a 2-0 lead by half-time through goals from Claude Shooting Borrtey and Mattias Van Amegbe.
Borrtey opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a superbly struck free-kick before Amegbe doubled the advantage ten minutes later to put Apostles firmly in control.
Issah Husseine extended the lead to 3-0 in the 72nd minute after the break, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. However, the defending Ghana Premier League champions managed to pull one back in stoppage time through Godfred John Arthur.
Despite the defeat, the Miners remain in second place, one point behind leaders Medeama SC, who also suffered a loss to Hohoe United.
The victory lifts Young Apostles two points above the relegation zone into 14th place with 30 points. They will look to build on this result when they travel to face Basake Holy Stars in their next fixture.
Bibiani Gold Stars, meanwhile, will aim to bounce back and close the gap on Medeama when they take on Karela United away in their next match.
