The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Mohamed Camara and Welfare Officer Kwasi Frimpong Amos with disciplinary breaches following a volatile Matchday 25 encounter against Karela United.
Both individuals are alleged to have violated Article 12(1)(i) of the GFA Disciplinary Code (2019) during the aftermath of Kotoko’s 1-0 loss at the Tamale Sports Stadium on Sunday, 8 March 2026.
The GFA has set a deadline of Wednesday, 11 March 2026, for the club and the accused to submit their formal responses to the charges.
The fallout stems from a high-stakes match that saw the âPorcupine Warriors’ reduced to ten men in the 40th minute after defender Henry Ansu was shown a straight red card.
Karela United capitalised almost immediately, with Malik Abubakar scoring the decisive goal in the 41st minute to secure the narrow victory.
Despite a late penalty save by Camara to keep the scoreline close, the post-match atmosphere turned hostile.
The GFA alleges that Camara confronted and assaulted the referee using insulting and abusive language, while Amos - a former club captain - is accused of forcefully seizing the referee’s red card and interfering with official authority on the pitch.
The defeat leaves Asante Kotoko in fifth place, now seven points adrift of league leaders Medeama SC, as the club grapples with both a dip in form and impending disciplinary sanctions.
For Karela United, the win marks a significant result in their push for a top-four finish, lifting them to sixth place with 38 points.
Kotoko must now navigate these charges ahead of their upcoming local derby against Nations FC, with the potential for significant suspensions looming over two key members of their technical and playing staff.
