Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has explained the decision to hand Ransford Yeboah Konigsdorffer a late call-up to the Black Stars squad following the withdrawal of Inaki Williams and Brandon Thomas-Asante.
The two forwards pulled out after sustaining injuries in their respective club matches, forcing the technical team to make a quick adjustment ahead of the upcoming international friendlies in Europe.
Asante Twum, speaking on TV3, said the priority was to maintain the core structure of the squad while also considering logistical factors, particularly travel arrangements within Europe.
“You have to try as much as possible not to break the spine of the team. Yes, we had two players pulling out, but transport arrangements are very crucial,” he said.
“With the team already in Europe, we looked at the possibility of bringing in players who do not require visas. Luckily, Ransford did not need a visa to travel to Austria. He was already on standby, so it was easier to assess his skillset and make the decision.”
