Bolts and nuts removed at Adomi Bridge will cost GHC120 - Assemblyman

The Assemblyman for Atimpoku in the Eastern Nana Yaw Ampem-Darko, has disclosed on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM that, the removal of the bolts and nuts at the Adomi Bridge got to him about a month ago. He was speaking to Kwame Tutu Monday November 5, 2018.

The bolts and nuts he indicated are not expensive and from the calculations done, it will cost GHc120 for them to replace the removed bolts and nuts.

He also revealed some lights at the bridge are not working and that is influencing people to steal from the bridge.

The Assemblyman said, the bolts and nuts can easily to be removed due to how it was done.

When asked why his assembly has failed to purchase the bolts and nuts and replace them, he said, "that is not our work. We don't have that authority to do it.''

Some unscrupulous persons have put the lives of thousands of passengers who use the Adomi Bridge daily in danger following the removal of bolts and nuts holding vital parts of the Bridge.

Report suggest that the suspects are targeting to remove some of the galvanized steel for a yet to be known purpose.

The DCE for Asuogyaman Samuel Kwame Agyekum confirmed the incident, adding that the security operatives are investigating the incident while the Ghana Highway Authority has been notified.

The Adomi Bridge located in Atimpoku in the Eastern Region which spans the Volta River that drains into the Gulf of Guinea, south of the Akosombo Dam was designed in 1956 and completed in 1957 by William Brown, of the engineers Freeman Fox & Partners.

In 2014, the bridge was closed to traffic on 10 March 2014 till 2016 for repair works and was opened to traffic in December 2015 after it had been refurbished. Read Full Story
