The Super Falcons were beaten for the first time by an impressive South African side after a distinguished solo effort by Thembi Kgatlana just five minutes to regulation time, after having squandering several scoring opportunities.
However, the Super Falcons promised to make it up to them in their next game against Zambia in Cape Coast on Wednesday.
In expressing their apology at a press conference on Monday, Nigeria captain, Onome Ebi said: “We are sorry for the loss to South Africa. We were down but not out. We are not leaving here without the trophy.”
The Nigerians put up a good show during the first half creating many scoring chances but failed to hit the back of the net until they were stunned by Thembi Kgatlana's 85th minute strike, which gave the Banyana Banyana a famous victory against the defending African champions. Read Full Story
