In a letter dated Wednesday, January 2, 2019, signed by the party’s Director of Administration, Hon. Emmanuel Zumakpeh, on behalf of the General Secretary, the party is urging the aspirants to take of the vetting date and avail themselves accordingly.
The party has fixed Friday, January 4 and Saturday, January 5, 2019, for vetting exercise.
The vetting of the flagbearer aspirants was originally slated December 21 and 22, 2018.
However, an Accra High Court placed an interim injunction on the presidential primaries slated for January 26, 2019.
The interim injunction followed a suit filed by two members of the party who claimed that the guidelines for the conduct of the election were against the party’s constitution.
This compelled the party to suspend all it activities including vetting of the candidates, balloting and appeals which were scheduled between December 21 and 24, 2018.
Seven candidates are competing for the vacant flagbearer position of the umbrella family.
They are: Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Prof. Joshua Alabi, Ekow Spio-Garbrah and Nurideen Iddrisu.
The rest are Goosie Tanoh, Sylvester Mensah and former President of the land, John Dramani Mahama. Read Full Story
