With the Red and White lads leading 1-0 at half time courtesy Gaston Pereiro's 8th minute wonder strike, coach Mark Van Bommel called on Gakpo from the bench at the start of the second half.
It was the 19-year-old's second league game for the side but was unfazed by the challenge as quickly announced his presence on the pitch with a sleek assist for Luuk De Jong to score the side's second goal of the game in the 54th minute.
Gakpo registered his name on the scoresheet two minutes later. The Ghanaian received a pass from Steven Bergwijn on the edge of the area, he cut into the box and fired home a powerful effort into the top of the net to open his first-team scoring account.
Further two late strikes from De Jong handed the Philip Stadion outfit a 5-0 win.
