The Young Lions of Teranga today made a light meal of the Black Satellites by inflicting a painful 2-0 defeat on them.
The result secure Senegal's qualification to the semi-final stage with a game to spare as well as booked their place as the first African team at U-20 World Cup in Poland 2019.
Ghana's loss to Senegal leaves them in a do and die affair with Mali on Saturday in the last penultimate game in Group B. A win or draw will secure qualification for the Satellites.
But according to head coach Jimmy Cobblah, come what may the Black Satellites will qualify ahead of Mali and eventually bring a medal home.
“I don’t know where that is coming from or who is saying Mali are the second favourites to win this tournament, maybe that’s (journalist) opinion. People were saying Ghana is going to be the weakest team because we have no competition in our country, but I want to say that Ghana will not leave this tournament without a medal,” Cobblah said in the post-match presser.
“I can assure you that we will qualify for the World Cup come the day we play Mali”
He added that his boys didn't have enough time to rest and it affected their performance.
“We protested that it was not fair for us to have only 24 hours rest, but the organizers said we must so we had no option than to come and play, but we are still hoping for the best.” Read Full Story
