Lawson, who will be making his first ring appearance in 10 months, a bout which will also serve as his Top Rank debut since joining the US promotional outfit on a five-year-deal.
The hard-hitting puncher says he expects a tough fight from his Venezuelan opponent but was hopeful of victory come March 30.
In a chat with the Graphic Sports from his Utah training base, Lawson (27-1, 21 KOs) said he was looking forward to challenging the world title soon after joining Bob Arum's stables in the Top Rank.
"I am looking forward to winning against Ruiz in my next fight after signing a promotional deal with Top Rank.
"It will be a tough fight but I believe in my capabilities and I'm hopeful of beating him on the night," he said.
Being inactive for close to a year, Lawson needs to work harder to regain his fitness against the 32-year-old Ruiz, who has won only once in his last five bouts.
Lawson will be hoping to make it four wins on the trot, having dispatched the likes of Sakima Mullings, Fidel Munoz and Baishanbo Nasiyiwula in his last three fights. Read Full Story
