Moments after Adisadel College had defeated rivals, St Augustine’s College, 5-4 on penalties at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra on Saturday June 15 to win the tournament for the fourth time, an elated Mr Agyapong, who witnessed the tension-packed game, pledged to give them GH¢15,000.
He said his gesture was to motivate the team to continue winning the tournament in subsequent years. Two days after his pledge, the MP gave GH¢10,000 cash to the team in honour of his pledge.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) Secretary of Adisadel Old Boys Association (AOBA), Mr Peter Atuora, who briefed the media about the gesture of Mr Agyapong, expressed appreciation for his continuous support to the school.
“The NEC of the AOBA is indeed grateful to Mr Agyapong and his 1981 Year Group for this magnanimity. We are so glad that the 1981 Year Group almost single-handedly carried the hockey team on their shoulders to bring glory and honour to the Santaclausian family,” he noted.
He said: “As a matter of fact, this is the fourth consecutive time that our boys have won this particular trophy, with their first being in 2016. One of our players also won the Best Player of the Tournament. This great feat comes on the heels of sound preparations given to our boys by the college’s Sports Department and support and encouragement of some Santaclausians.”
Mr Atuora also commended Messrs Victor Sowah of the 1997 Year Group, Lebene Adjoyi of the 2002 Year Group and Ebenezer Arthur of the 2003 Year Group for providing hockey sticks and balls to the team to enhance their training. Read Full Story
