It’s a historic day in the AFCON with the Video Assistant Referee set to be used for the first time in the competition.

History will remember the game between Senegal and Benin as the first match to enjoy the services of the new technology.

Senegal have not produced the fine performances people expected of them but they have so far done the needful – scoring goals and winning games.

Benin pulled off one of the most remarkable feats in the last 16 stage. Stretching Herve Renard’s Morocco to penalty shootouts before knocking them out with a 4-1 scoreline.

A prophet in Benin has predicted the ultimate for Dusuyer’s men and today is another big test of their resolve.

Senegal have a good record in the quarter-final of the AFCON, of 8 matches played they’ve lost only one.

Aliou Cisse has a difficult task of delivering Senegal their first AFCON trophy and against a very resolute Benin side he will need the creativity of star man Mane to keep the mission on course.

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is still out injured after picking up an injury in the tournament opener against Tunisia so Aliou Cisse will field a team similar to the one that played against Uganda.

Benin have certainly been dealt a heavy blow by the absence of veteran centre-back Khaled Adenon who was sent off in extra-time during the Round of 16 clash with Morocco but striker Steve Mounie is back on his feet after meeting the last.

It’s the first meeting of the two sides in the AFCON but Senegal with their star-studded side are slightly favourites to win this tie.
