The American fighter said he views Commey as an obstacle to his dream of securing a world title fight as well as unifying against WBC, WBA and WBO lightwieght titlist, Vasiliy Lomachenko next year.
Lopez is expected to make his first world title championship bow against the Ghanaian in an ESPN televised tripleheader which would witness Terence Crawford defend his WBO title in the main event against Egis Kavaliauskas.
The hard-hitting undefeated boxer was criticised for his performance after his recent 12-round decision on July 19 over Japanese veteran Masayoshi Nakatani in a title eliminator.
In an interview with boxingscene.com, the 22-year-old Lopez noted that he was looking forward to proving his critics wrong by backing up his talks with a spectacular performance.
“I’m finally back at Madison Square Garden, the place where I always wanted to win my first world title,” Lopez said.
“I believe this fight will shut up all of the critics and prove to everyone that I back up my talking in the ring. I respect Commey as a champion, but when we’re in that ring, it’s going to be lights out for him. Come December 14, I am officially taking over the lightweight division.
Commey on the other hand would make his second title defence since stopping Isa Chaniev to win a vacant IBF lightweight title on February 2 in Frisco, Texas.
He defended the belt June 29, knocking down former lightweight world champion Ray Beltran down four times before earning a technical knockout victory in the eighth round. Read Full Story
