The Bongo District Chief Executive, Peter Ayinbisa who disclosed this at a media encounter in Bongo said assessments of the approved communities have been completed by the Volta River Authority (VRA) and work will soon start to add the areas to the national grid.
He indicated that government was going to use part of the Sinohydro facility to fund the project in the coming months, adding that, government will not abandon rural electrification projects of communities awarded under the previous administration.
“What government intends to do before the end of 2020 for the Bongo District is to add 47 new virgin communities that have never witnessed electricity. It will not be long, these 47 communities together with others will be connected to the national grid to boost the economic fortunes of the people of Bongo”.
On road infrastructure in the district, Mr. Ayinbisa said contractors, who had previously abandoned work over delayed payments, will soon return to site to improve the road network in the area.
“The assembly will continue to do periodic maintenance such as re-shaping, spot improvement and opening up of new roads to facilitate transportation of our people and enhance service delivery,” he said.
Mr. Ayinbisa hinted that, under the One-District-One-Factory, the assembly has decided that a Shea butter processing factory be sited at Bogrigo, adding that, the construction of the project will kick start by 2020.
He added that, a total of 50 local people will own the factory and further provide over 200 direct and indirect jobs through the Shea value chain.
On government’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme, Mr. Ayinbisa, said, the availability of seedlings and subsidized fertilizer to farmers under the programme has boosted food production and incomes of small holder farmers in the area.
He hinted that, a total of 102 farmers will be given livestock to rear under the Rearing for Food and Jobs programme.
According to him, 29 boreholes have been have been constructed under the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme. Read Full Story
