Expressing his confidence in the Board Chair and its members to deliver on their mandate, the Minister stated that he and his abled team have largely held the fort in the absence of a governing board for the Minerals Commission but is of the firm conviction that as this board assumes its constitutionally mandated role, it will do an even better job.
Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor reiterated the relevance of the Minerals Commission as one that per Article (269) of the country's constitution is a body created purposely for the management of the country's mineral resources.
Speaking at the swearing-in of the Board today, Wednesday 8th September, 2021, the Minister emphasized his expectations and the stance of government on small-scale mining.
He said, " You are to fashion out a framework within which we can strick that delicate and careful balance between promoting responsibility Small-Scale Mining which contributes to the economy and fitisining illegal mining and its obvious adverse consequences".
He added, "The policy of the President is not to frown upon Small-Scale Mining, what we are against is irresponsible Small-Scale Mining".
Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor beseeched the newly inaugurated board, not to be overly focused on only gold and lose sight of the other minerals.
He further urged them to take full management of others mineral resources such as bauxite lithium and even salt.
On his part, the Chairman of the Board, Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi expressed her appreciation to the Minister on behalf of the board and promised to serve the administration and deliver results. She also assured the Minister of the commitment of the Board to ensure that the vision of the President on Idustralization and Ghana Beyond Aid agenda is fully realized.
