As part of their corporate social responsibilities, AngloGold Ashanti or (AGA) has presented items to four institutions in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region.
The items, estimated to cost GHC8,000 include three bags of 25 kilograms rice, six cartoons of soft drinks, two boxes of tomato paste, a box of frytol cooking oil, five fowls and five hundred Ghana cedis to each organisation to mark the yuletide.
They visited four places, all in Adansi area, namely: Research Utilisation School for the Deaf, Abdulam Orphanage, Obuasi Prisons Services and Patmos Children’s Home.
The AGA through one of their civil contractors undertook civil engineering works and renovated a dilapidated house of the Research Utilisation School for the Deaf at Ahansoyewodea.
At a presentation at the hearing impaired facility, the Sustainability Manager of AGA, Nana Ampofo-Bekoe explained that the donation is an annual routine programme.
According to him, since Christmas is a festival of love and merrymaking, AGA decided to donate to orphanages and prisons.
Revealing their relationship with the hearing-impaired, Manager Ampofo Bekoe indicated that sometime in September, they donated items to the facility, following a lead by Obuasi-based journalist, who revealed to the AGA about the existence of the hearing-impaired facility and they decided to come to their aid.
He continued that during the visit, Mr. Fred Nsarko, the operations manager of AGA, gave a situational report about the terrible state of their facilities, which needed urgent attention.
Nana Ampofo-Bekoe explained that the AGA contractor had taken note of the classroom blocks.
He called on the Ghana Educational Services (GES), the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) and Ghanaians to assist the people with special needs.
Ing Bob Doe, who renovated the facility, disclosed to The Chronicle that among some of the works which was done on the building were changing of windows, replacement of glass and louvre blades and plastering among others.
Proprietor of the facility, Madam Genevieve Basigah, expressed gratitude for the gesture, disclosing that they have been battling food shortages and inadequate teachers to teach the children.
At the forecourt of Obuasi Prisons Services, which was the AGA’s third point of call, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) F.W.K Dapaah hailed AGA for their annual Christmas support.
