Real Estate and other housing organizations including Cameo 1 Homes are working on COVID-19 relief packages for renters including a freeze on evictions.
The proposed package comes as companies across Accra and Kumasi start laying off or standing down workers as cash flow dries up.
The proposed relief could come the way of renters who are unable to pay their rent because of corona virus.
Mr. Augustine Ewiah, Chief Executive Officer Cameo 1 Group of companies and industry experts say further work will be done to identify on how relief can be provided to both commercial and residential tenancies to ensure that in hardship conditions, there will be relief that will be made available to ensuring a legislation that protects tenants during an epidemic.
Mr. Ewia said under the package, tenants will benefit from not paying rent or not moving out of rented remises during the corona virus epidemic.
“We understand that the planned relief might have an adverse effects on landlords but we all need to put a human face on the situation and make sacrifices”, Ewia stated.
He said in a similar vein as the Republic Bank has put a six-month freeze on repayment of loans for customers, Housing organisations are working with the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) and Rent Control for immediate action to practicalise the proposed relief package.
Cameo 1 Homes which has over the past few years worked hard to provide quality and affordable accommodation for Ghanaians of all classes, has innovative products such as “Rent now Pay monthly”; “Home warranty”; “Open /Stage house”, “Property management”; as well as the sale of affordable and litigation free lands to its clients.
Cameo1 Homes, a subsidiary of Cameo1 Group, has also since July 2019, announced the acceptance of Bitcoin (BTC), Ripple (XRP) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as payment for the purchase of Properties on their platform.
