Ghana recorded its first case of COVID-19 on March 12, 2020 and the number has kept on rising in each passing day. Gold Fields says as a company, which prioritizes the health and safety of its employees, it has a duty to support the needy and vulnerable in our society in these challenging times.
“We believe our contribution will go a long way to flattening the curve and help us return to normal lives soon’, Mr Alfred Baku said in a press statement.
According to him, it was also spending approximately $400,000 directly to support employees and host communities, which are all geared towards the fight against COVID-19 .
This amount, he explained, covers the purchase of hand-held thermometers, sanitizers, googles, face masks, protective gowns and other COVID-19 prevention materials.
It is on record that prior to Ghana recording its first case, the Mine site had instituted stringent measures to screen employees, community members, contractors and visitors to the site. These measures, according to information, are still in force.
That apart, Gold Fields is also working closely with local and national health authorities to keep the operational areas safe and to strengthen COVID- 19 protocols. Mr. Baku commended employees for their vigilance and dedication to work.
