Government has condemned the inhumane treatment Ghanaian nationals and other citizens of Africa are being subjected to in China in the wake of the novel coronavirus.
The Ambassador for the People’s Republic of China to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, was summoned by the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey over the matter.
There have been reports of Ghanaian and citizens of other African countries being treated badly in China.
Videos circulating on social media shows Chinese officials and landlords particularly in Wuhan and Guangshou, evicting Africans from their places of abode, among other inhumane treatments.
A statement by the Minister said the summon was to register government’s disappointment over the development.
“I regret and highly condemn this act of ill-treatment and racial discrimination,” the Minister said in the statement.
It was also to call for the Ambassador’s government to immediately address the situation and bring their officials to order.
The statement further indicated that, in a matter of 24 hours, government of Ghana would issue a formal communication to address the issue.
