The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ningo-Prampram has confirmed that the area recorded two Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Sunday.
Jonathan Paa Nii Doku told The Chronicle on the phone that the suspects were two adults -one had travelled into the country in March and the other was yet to know how he caught the virus.
In order to help contain the virus from further spreading, Mr Doku said: “We are applying the standard treatment protocols to manage the cases. We are also waiting for test results of most of the samples we sent to Noguchi. So far, 430 samples had been taken to Noguchi for testing. We have 10 results ready – 8 negatives and 2 positives.
“We should be okay as a district if we remain calm and minimise physical contact with others and adhere to the hand hygiene protocols.”
He said the Assembly was supporting the Health Department in carrying out public education through street announcements.
The news has cast fear and anxiety among most of the residents of the District, who implored the government and Assembly to procure temperature thermometers for the security personnel at the checkpoints at Nyigbenya, Prampram junction and Community 25 junction to check commuters on the stretch.
Additionally, they urged the Assembly to enforce the President’s ban on social gatherings to prevent the virus from further spreading.
