The Volta Region has recorded nine cases of people infected with the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease, which came as a surprise to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) which had put in place measures to prevent the spread of the virus. The region, from zero infection, had risen to the figure of nine from various parts of the region.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, who made this known in a statement made available to the media, explained that six of the cases came from Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality, which involved six Nigerian travellers who entered into the country through unapproved routes and were isolated, since they arrived in the country through Aflao and tested positive.
Dr. Letsa continued that two of the cases were reported at the Hohoe Municipal Hospital, which involved a pregnant woman from Ashaiman, who came to her mother at Hohoe to deliver, as well as a young man who also travelled from Accra to Hohoe , who were isolated and tested positive.
The Minister continued that one case was also reported at the Ho Teaching Hospital, involving a man who travelled from Accra to Ho, tested positive and called on the people to adhere to measures put in place to control the spread of the disease, as the government had shown much commitment to controlling the disease.
Meanwhile, Mafi-Kumase and Dabala markets in the Central and South Tongu Districts respectively and the Ho market in the Ho Municipality have all been closed temporarily, as the people failed to observe social distance rules put in place to prevent the spread of the disease, by having daily markets to avoid crowds on such days.
The security agencies, including the police and military, have taken position at vantage streets in the Ho market area to prevent people from entering the market as today, Monday the 13th of April 2020, is the market day, a development that drew the attention of the people to the seriousness the VRCC attached to controlling the pandemic.
