The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has warned residents of the region to put on facemasks in public places or face sanctions.
ARCC has also reminded residents of the Ashanti region that the indefinite suspension of Special Market Days within the Ashanti region is still I force.
However, daily market in various communities will go on as usual.
In a statement signed by the Ashanti regional minister, Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah and copied to The Chronicle, he explained that facemasks must be constantly worn especially in areas such as Markets, Hospitals, Shops, Restaurants, Banks, Work places, on board commercial vehicle and other places.
Mr Osei-mensah said: “Street Hawkers (especially those who hawk in traffic) and Wayside Food vendors are also mandated to wear masks.
Extending the directive on transportation system in the region, the statement indicated that all commercial drivers who take passengers without facemasks will be sanctioned.
The ARCC statement follows calls by President Akufo-Addo on all Ghanaians to wear facemasks as a measure to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
The Ashanti regional minister further called on all groupings put together for the purpose of playing cards, draught, football as well as organisation of keep fit activities are indefinitely suspended and declared illegal under the present circumstances, in order to observe the social distancing protocol .
Mr. Osei-Mensah revealed that currently, Ashanti region has 221 foreign nationals in custody. The development, he noted, poses danger to the region, warning that anybody who is caught transporting foreigners into the region in such large groups, as well as landlords who harbour such people, shall be dealt with in accordance with the Laws of the Country.
