The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has eulogised the Ashanti King, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu II, describing him as a national asset.
Dr Bawumia, who joined a myriad of well-wishers to express their gratitude to the Ashanti King on his 70th Birthday, said Ghanaians must treasure and celebrate the Ashanti King, because his knowledge and wisdom transcended the shores of Ghana.
Mr Bawumia was speaking on the maiden morning show of OPEMSUO FM, a new radio station which operates from the official seat of the Golden Stool, Manhyia, in Kumasi.
The station, which became operational yesterday, was inundated with messages from both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians across the globe, describing the Ashanti Monarch as a humble, kind, respectful and honest leader.
Reminiscing how Otumfuo Osei-Tutu aided Ghana to secure a loan from the World Bank when he served as the Deputy Governor at the Bank of Ghana in the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufour administration, Alhaji Bawumia told the listeners that Otumfuo is great leader who is full of wisdom, spanning from politics to development. He asked Allah to bless the Golden Stool occupant with strength and wisdom.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who was among the well-wishers, also said Otumfuo Osei-Tutu is a great leader who has contributed enormously to the development of Ghana.
According to the former head of state, Ghana wouldn’t have been granted a World Bank loan if not for the intervention of Otumfuo.
He also attributed the prevailing peace in the once-upon-a-time troubled enclave of Dagbon to the Ashanti royal, saying when things fell apart, he run to Otumfuo, who swiftly intervened and initiated a peaceful arbitration with the feuding factions in the Dagbon crisis.
Mr. John Dramani Mahama, former President, also sent a supposedly voice note to the station eulogising the Ashanti King as a wise leader who gives wise counsel to people.
