The Bono Regional Minister, Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson has paid a working visit to the Wenchi Municipal and other districts, as part of monitoring and evaluating activities and measures implemented in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The visit afforded Municipal and District Chief Executives (M/DCEs) who chair the Public Health Emergency Committees (PHECs) in their areas to account for their activities in preventing the importation and spread of the disease.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sunyani, Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie presented a detailed report on a master plan of all the programmes and activities being rolled out under his leadership to curb the disease and keep the Municipality safe.
It includes Media & Publicity led by the Information Services Department (ISD), Security (Ghana Police Service, Immigration Service, Fire Service, Assembly City Guards) and Health & Sanitation (Ghana Health Service, Environmental Health, Zoom Lion, etc). Each team is led by a team of professionals and experts.
Programmes rolled out so far include public sensitisation, fumigation/disinfestation of market centres, shift market system, creation of multiple satellite markets, mounting of barriers at boundaries to check entry and exit of people and goods.
Isolation Centre has been created at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, free distribution of veronica buckets, hand sanitizers, liquid soap, tissue and detergents, among others.
Almost 2, 000 facemasks have also been distributed to Transport Unions including; GPRTU, PROTOA, Taxi, and Cargo drivers as well as market women and tricycle (Pragyia) riders.
According to the MCE 8,000 more of facemasks would be distributed to the public, while self-isolation has been strongly advocated.
Mrs Kumi Richardson was satisfied about the measures and commended the Wenchi Municipal Assembly for it being proactive.
She explained the 12-point directives by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) particularly about the suspension of operations of tricycles (Pragyia) in the region which raised concern from the public and petition by Motorcycle Owners Tricycle Riders Association.
The regional minister urged them to comply with all directives and measures implemented against COVID-19 for their own protection.
The Minister for Planning and Member of Parliament for the area, Prof George Gyan-Baffour, the Tain District Chief Executive, Madam Charity Foriwaa Dwommoh and DCE for Banda, Mary Akoneh, also updated the minister on activities in their respective districts.
