Perseus Mining Ghana Limited at Ayanfuri in the Central Region has donated two Toyota Landcruiser Troopers to the Dunkwa Divisional Police Command to boost security in the Denkyira area.
Mr. Andy Amoah, Acting General Manager of the mining company, who handed over the vehicles to the Police Command, said the gesture was part of the company’s Social Management Plan developed to ensure safety in communities within Perseus’s mining concession.
He said it was expected to enhance police patrols to respond to distress calls in order to combat the high incidence of crime in the area, and explained further that the scheme had been developed following lessons learnt from previous challenges that kept the operations of the mining firm dormant.
The General Manager appealed to opinion leaders and the government to actively support the company keep illegal miners at bay from the company’s concession.
DCOP Mrs. Habiba Twumasi Sarpong, Deputy Regional Police Commander, who received the vehicles on behalf of the police administration, thanked the management of Perseus Mining Ghana Limited for the kind gesture, and noted that the police had no excuse but to deliver and improve on the security situation in the area.
He assured the public of the preparedness of the police to ensure peace and security in the country, and appealed for the cooperation and support of the general public.
Supt. Mr. John Ferguson Dzinekue, Dunkwa Divisional Police Commander, commended Perseus Mining Ghana for the initiative, and reiterated the government’s commitment to support the cause of peace, justice and security in the country.
The presentation ceremony was witnessed by DSP Mr. Edmund Jones Afutu, District Commander, Dunkwa-on-Offin, DSP Mr. Ebenezer Anim Ofori, Divisional Crime Officer and DSP Mr. Osei Adu Agyemang, District Commander, Diaso.
