The National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), in conjunction with the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, has given start-up kits to women groups in four communities and two graduate apprentices to start their businesses.
The groups, from Sanso and Mamiriwa, were provided with cassava processing machines while Anyinam community benefited from soap making machines, with Antoboase getting baking ovens and confectionery machines.
Mr. Michael Oppong and Rebecca Boakye received industrial sewing machines.
Mr. Kelvin OforiAttah, Head of Obuasi Office of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of NBSSI called on the beneficiary groups and individuals to thrive to create direct and indirect jobs in their respective communities.
“You have been given free training and free equipment. You are, therefore, required to work hard so that you will be in the capacity to create direct and indirect jobs for others,” he said.
Mr. Ofori Attach commended the Municipal Assembly for its immense support towards the fulfillment of the objectives of the Obuasi office of the BAC of NBSSI.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Elijah AdansiBonah, noted that this is not the first time that start-up kits have been given out to graduate apprentices in the municipality.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the equipment well to improve their lot and that of the larger community within which they are going to operate.
The MCE pointed out that he would not entertain a situation where some individuals will go to the extent of hijacking the equipment given out for their personal use.
He, therefore, charged the assemblymen and the unit committee members of the four communities that are benefitting from the package to ensure that the equipment is put to proper use.
In a related development, Mr. AdansiBonah has inaugurated the Obuasi NBSSI/Master Card Foundation Young Africa Works Project, which seeks to create dignified work for the youth of the country.
He charged all and sundry, especially young men and women, to offer themselves to be trained under the programme to become innovative and creative entrepreneurs.
