The Kpone Paramount Stool has warned of exposing government officials at the Lands Commission who are criminally aiding some individuals to sell off stool lands.
The Kpone Paramount Stool covers Gbetsile, Kpoiete, Sackie, Sebrepor, Appolonia, Kpone-Bawaleshie and Saduase, forming one of the highly respected and greatest paramount stools in the Ga Traditional Area.
Nonetheless, the receipt of reports from his divisional chiefs, who are the trustees of the Kpone paramountcy stool lands, to Nii Tetteh Otu II, Paramount Chief of Kpone, point to the fact that his stool lands are being registered to some individuals by some government officials at the Lands Commission.
At a news conference at Kpone to lay this bare, Nii Tetteh Otu II said: “Our institutions are failing us. If [our] institutions are working well, why are some officials at the Lands Commission registering stool lands for individuals to be causing troubles in my area? We believe there are root causes to these and the institution must be tackled head on.
“The traditional people are left without a choice than to protect their own lands from such crooks being aided by some element within government institutions such the Lands Commission.
“The paramountcy is, therefore, sending a word of caution to such government officials to desist from such behaviours before they are exposed. Stool lands cannot be registered by selfish individuals. The Paramount Stool, as at now, does not have any problem with its divisional chiefs, who are equally respected by their people, but what is happening in the traditional area, as regards their land, is not just the normal land issues one can easily allude to.”
Nii Tetteh Otu II said that the Paramount Stool is well aware of a recent statement put out by the Gbetsile Stool, regarding how a certain Appolonia regent the paramountcy disregards is doing everything possible to shift boundary lines between the two communities to claim lands.
Setting the records straight, Nii Tetteh Otu II averred that there was a recognised and gazetted Chief of Appolonia, hence, wondered why an individual would go around carrying himself as the Regent of Appolonia and Gbetsile.
“The Paramount Stool is taking all the necessary steps to correct this anomaly. The two chiefs have had some discussions on the way forward on that, and I can assure everybody that very soon, the issue surrounding the illegal acquisition of the stool lands will be a thing of the past. But, while we do that, it is important for the general public to know that Kpone Paramountcy lands are stool lands and must be respected as such by whoever has a business to do on our lands.”
He quickly called on those who have already acquired lands from individuals to quickly regularise their documents with the Kpone Paramountcy, through the divisional stools, before the Paramount Stool begins to go after persons with such illegal documents.
He also called on the various industries operating on their lands to take into consideration all the necessary environmental safety measures, in order to make their environment and the people safe.
According to him, the Stool would be following up on these industries closely, maintaining that “it is the wish of the Stool that everyone living within our catchment area will live in peace to go about their businesses without fear or intimidation. We, therefore, charge all persons to be law abiding. We want to applaud the government for declaring anti-land guards’ activities in the country.”
