The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has started a three day tour of the eighteen constituencies in the Volta Region to canvass for votes to enable him and the party take over the presidency for the second time.
The former President entered the region through Battor in the North Tongu Constituency, but this time, the large number of followers that normally characterised such political visits was absent as a result of the Covid-19 protocols.
Mr. Mahama assured the chiefs that if Ghanaians would consider him to lead the country for the second time he would complete the Volivo Bridge project that his government initiated before leaving office, but has been abandoned. According to him, job creation would take centre stage of his next administration.
He disclosed that if the opportunity is offered him and the NDC, he would create 250,000 jobs each year. He would equally pay attention to vocational and technical education, which would become free to help the youth to fully benefit from vocational and technical education.
The NDC presidential candidate also hinted that he would pay special attention to the physically challenged and visually impaired, to enable them take care of their families more effectively, stressing that he would also unite the country to remove all divisive tendencies that are gradually dividing the people.
Mr. Mahama also addressed the chiefs, religious leaders and party executives in the constituency at Mepe, where he accused the government of non-performance and urged the people to vote for him to enable him to carry out development that would be beneficial to them.
The Paramount Chief of Battor Traditional Area, Togbe Kpatamia Dzekle V, expressed concern over the way their chiefs had been tagged as polling station agents of the NDC by the some of the New Patriotic Party members in the region, and called for restraint at the way they were being attacked.
The former president also visited Bakpa in the same constituency, where he reiterated the preparedness of the next NDC government to promote the development of the area if given the mandate to govern the country again, and asked them to vote for him massively in the pending general elections.
The Paramount Chief of Fievie, Togbe Agama Amata IV, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs, commended Mr. Mahama for his efforts to bring development to the constituencies when he was the president.
According to them, the previous NDC government and the former President would be mostly remembered for the provision of potable water and electricity, which had helped to improve the living condition of the people in the area.
At Anloga, the Agbotadua, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs, appealed to the NDC presidential candidate to address the acute water problem confronting the people of Anyako, should he be given the nod to lead the country again.
He also reminded him of the Keta Harbour project, which, he said, was of much importance to the people.
