Tension is gradually building up in Kwahu Ridge between the chief of Brukuwa, Nana OseiTwumBrifa and DaasebreAkuamoah Agyapong, the Okwahumanhene over GHC14, 000 Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) money.
According to pieces of information gathered from the area, the leading telecommunication giant, in its effort to provide quality service, decided to erect a mast on a piece of land within the traditional jurisdiction of Brukuwahene.
Speaking to the media at a press conference over the weekend, the chief of Brukuwa, indicated that the overlord of Kwahu, who he (Brekuwahene) serves, requested that the money to be paid to him by MTN be brought to him.
The Brukuwa chief explained that it is only one-third of the total money after tax should go to the Omanhene, but the latter, he continued, is asking for all the GHC14, 000 which defies logic.
Nana OseiTwumBrifa continued that as a result of this, he was asked by the Adontehene, who doubles as Abetifihene, Nana AsieduAgyeman, to step down. He argued that it is against custom for him to be destooled because he insisted on doing what is right.
He has, however, called on all well-meaning people of the area, both home and abroad, to treat the destoolment speculation with a pinch of salt, since he is still the legitimate chief of Brekuwa, with its corresponding traditional powers.
Nana OseiTwumBrifa Kwahu Bukruwahene accused Kwahumanhene,DaasebreAkuamua Agyapong and Kwahu Adontenhene, Nana AsieduAgyeman of being the cause of the assault on one Nana ObengPoku at Kwahu Bukruwa in the Eastern Region, due to the act of intimidation and misapplication of culture and custom in Kwahu by these two leaders.
According to him, he has been unfairly treated by DaasebreAkuamoah Agyapong and the Adontehenewho, who are bent on overthrowing him and taking over his land.
The Brukuwahene indicated that, the Chief of Abene, the traditional capital of Kwahus, wanted him to turn in documents covering lands within his area (Brukuwahene traditional jurisdiction), which is under litigation to him (omanhene), but he refused.
“In history, there has been no instance where an Omanhene has litigated for a sub chief title before, what if after the whole litigation you come back and tell me that you’ve wasted a lot of money so you want to take my chieftaincy rights and rule, what will I do”, he quizzed.
He said he consulted his family and they agreed not to consent to what the paramount chief was demanding and that they look for their own money to litigate over the ownership of the land.
Responding to the allegations raised on behalf of the Omanhene, KwahuheneKyeame, OkyeameAsieduKwabeng described Nana Brifa as a novice in traditional matters and, therefore, would be appropriate for him to humblehimself and learn.
He denied all the allegations made by BrukuwaheneagainstDaasebreAkuamoah Agyapong and Adontehene, NanaAsieduAgyeman.
According to him, the paramount chief only demanded custody of documents covering a land in dispute so he could properly handle the issue, but his sub chief refused the request.
As a result of this, the paramount chief also refused to grant a loan the sub chief had requested and also directed that he (Brukuwahene) be destooled for disobeying him.
Okyeame, however, admitted that the Kwahu Manhene requested for the GHC14, 000 paid to him (Nana OseiTwumBrifa) by the MTN.
According to him, the Omanehenetook the decision because he thought since the ownership of the land, where the MTN mast is sited, is in dispute, it would better for him to keep the money until the dispute was resolved.
He (Okyeame) also revealed that the dispute over the land had even been won in court by Dobiregya people but he (Brukuwa chief) is still fighting over the land same.
According to Okyeame, it was on the basis of this that the Omanhene requested for the documents, which his sub chief refused to do.
“Dobiregya has already taken Nana OseiBrifa to high court over the same land and the court ruled in Dobiregya’sfavor, so the land is for Dobiregya, but since DaaasebreAkuamoah is the sole owner of the land, he asked Nana Osei to drop the case so he, Daasebre, can litigate and secure his land backbecause he is the sole distributor of all the lands in the town and would not allow Dobiregya take control over his land”, he added.
“If Nana Brifa says he has paid anything on the land then he is a big liar.Daasebre has spent money on that land just to secure it back to Brukuwaa,” he insisted.
The Okyeame added that Daasebre organised a meeting and warned Nana OseiBrifa not to step foot on the land and also desist from collecting any money from the land since that could be contempt of law.
After the meeting, Nana Brifa also held his own meeting at Brukuwa and announced that though Daasebre has warned him not to sell the land, he will still go ahead to sell it, a situation which was unfortunately recorded and handed over to Daasebre.
“Someone brought the recorded tape to Daasebre and when he listened to it, he called the Abetifihene, that is the Adontehene, to also bear witness to what Nana Brifa has said and told Adontehene that if Brifa is saying he has nothing to do with him, he also has nothing to do with him and that he (Brifa) should not be present anytime he (Oamhene) organises a meeting or durbar.”
The Okyeame stated that Nana Brifa has acted very disrespectfully to the Omanhene and the Adontehene for the utterances he made and some actions he took.
He, therefore, confirmed that Nana Brifa is no longer the chief of Brukuwa and that he had been destooled.
