The Chief of Bonwire, Nana Bobie Ansah II, has made a passionate appeal to the government through the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to establish a Kente Village and a Kente Board to create employment and supervise weavers to facilitate employment for the youth in the area.
According to him, Nananom (chiefs) and the opinion leaders have completed their business plans and presented it to the One District One Factory Secretariat for the necessary action, and are still waiting for a response.
He expressed worry about the difficulty in getting guarantors to secure loan facilities from Exim Bank for the Kente Village and Yarn Factory, and appealed to the government to help access a guarantor for the establishment of a Kente factory at Bonwire.
He hoped that the project could help improve the economic standards of the people, while reducing the importation of the yarn from China by investing the monies into the local economy.
The Chief promised the support of Nananom and the people of Bonwire for the government for stabilising the economy through projects like the “One District, One Factory”,” One Village, One Dam”, Free Senior High School policy, and other socio-economic interventions.
Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was at Bonwire in the Ejisu Municipality to cut the sod for the commencement of the construction of a Kente Museum, however, promised the people of the government’s commitment to ensure that the 2016 campaign promises are fulfilled.
The Veep entreated the residents to help and partner the contractor working on the Kente Museum for it to be completed on time to serve its intended purpose.
Dr. Bawumia revealed that the government was putting measures in place to establish a Technical Vocational Institute as a Tertiary Community Integrated Development Project, and called for about 99% for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections in December.
