The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), last Friday, presented sanitation tools to the Subin Sub-Metropolitan Council to facilitate the work of the ‘Clean and Green Team’, a novel sanitation group constituted by the Sub-Metropolitan Assembly in May, last year, to help clean the city center.
The assembly has also recruited 20 new members into the ‘Clean and Green Team’ which brings the total membership of the team to 50.
The Subin Sub-Metropolitan area comprises the center of Kumasi, which coincidentally falls under the jurisdiction where the KMA office is located.
The City Mayor, Mr. Osei AssibeyAntwi, who presented the sanitation tools to the Subin Sub-Metro, explained that the items were a back-up plan especially for the weekends because lots of refuse is generated in the city center during the weekends.
The items included a tricycle (aboboya), shovels, rakes, brooms, hand gloves, wheelbarrows and wellington boots.
Mr. Assibey stated that the cleanliness of the city or otherwise, easily attracted public attention and was full of praise to the Subin Sub-Metro unit and the ‘Clean and Green Team’ for the wonderful work they are doing to keep the city clean.
The KMA Environmental Director, Mr. Isaac Bassanyin, said the city can be free from all forms of diseases if the assembly is able to take care of all the physical filth around.
Mr. Stephen Ofori, the Presiding Member of KMA, in a remark appealed to members of the team, especially the newly engaged ones, to take the weekend cleaning exercise seriously to ensure the success of the clean and green project.
Mr. Yaw Yeboah, Chairman of Subin Sub-Metro, who is also the assemblyman for Adum Baamu Dominase received the items on behalf of the Sub-Metro from the Presiding Member, Mr. Stephen Ofori.
