With less than 40 days to go to the polls, the seemingly divided Subin New Patriotic Party (NPP) is now united more than ever before.
The delegates who engaged their MP in hostilities and a legal battle have agreed in principle to bury their differences in the interest of the party, having upheld the results of the June 20, 2020 primary in the constituency.
With the reconciliation, the stage is now set for Eugene Boakye Antwi to lead the constituency to the December elections as the parliamentary candidate.
The move to resolve the impasse was mooted by a prominent statesman to bring the two parties together.
As a result, all the delegates and members who had been suspended indefinitely or dismissed from the party have been reinstated, thus revoking the suspension letters issued previously, The Constituency Secretary, Akuamoah Boateng, confirmed this in a letter issued on October 23, 2020.
The party will have to report back to a Kumasi High Court on the outcome of the settlement out of court arrangement to end the legal tussle between the MP and delegates.
Mr. Frederick Fredua Anto (F.F. Anto), Second National Vice Chairman of the NPP, at the reconciliation party on Sunday, reminded the party members of the provision of Article 2 of the NPP Constitution, which enjoins them to work towards the main objective – to win political power through elections.
He urged the executives and members to embark on vigorous house-to-house campaigns to propagate the good work of President Akufo-Addo to give him four more years at the Presidency to roll out more policies and programmes.
The National Vice Chairman urged the executives and members, particularly polling station executives, who have consistently worked to reduce NDC votes in the constituency from 18,000 in 2012 to 11,000 in 2016, and hoped that with a vigorous campaign by executives from the 157 polling stations in the constituency, the NDC votes would be reduced to below 500 in the December elections.
Mr. Anto disclosed that the Ashanti Region is NDC’s third highest in terms of votes, and expected that it would give the NPP a bigger margin against the NDC to maintain its status as the party’s “World Bank”.
Isaac Nimako, leader of the hitherto aggrieved delegates, called for unity and to forge ahead as a party to contest the presidential and parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, Mr. Frank Kwadwo Duodu has withdrawn his candidature as an independent candidate for the Subin seat.
Consequently, the Subin NPP would embark on a Unity Walk on November 7, 2020 to seal the reconciliation move to herald the official launch of the campaign by the Subin Constituency on November 9, 2020, MP Eugene Boakye Antwi has announced.
