Mr. Eugene Boakye-Antwi, Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, has donated more than 50 boxes of hand sanitisers and tissues for distribution to various media houses at a ceremony in Kumasi.
The items were channeled through the regional branch of the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA) to help the media in the fight against the pandemic.
He commended the media for playing an instrumental role in Ghana’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The constant education and sensitisation, via the various media platforms, according to him, had helped to create awareness on the novel Coronavirus.
Mr. Boakye-Antwi, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin in the Ashanti Region, said it was important that the media sustain the momentum by persistently highlighting the need for the citizenry to observe the safety protocols.
Mr. Boakye-Antwi pointed out that the country’s approach to managing the pandemic had been one of the best globally, citing the high rate of recoveries and low death rate.
The Deputy Minister, consequently, advocated strict adherence to the COVID-19 preventive protocols, saying the mandatory wearing of nose masks, hand-washing and use of hand sanitisers ought to be respected.
Mr. Kingsley E. Hope, Regional GJA Chairman, lauded the MP for the gesture, and advised the media to strive to abide by the safety protocols.
The Association, he noted, had since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country coordinated with varied corporate institutions and the authorities to educate the public to stay safe.
Since September this year, the MP has taken it upon himself to support organisations to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
Among the beneficiaries of the MPs largess in this regard are personnel of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA, Customs Division, at the Kumasi Collection, the Manhyia Divisional Command (Zongo Police Station) at Asem in Kumasi, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) office at Asafo in Kumasi, the Ashanti area office of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in Asokwa, and the Ghana National Association of Garages (Zone 16), in Asafo.
Other recipients are the Ashanti Regional Police Command, within the Baamu Dominase Electoral Area, and the Garden City Mechanics in Dadiesoaba.
Each of the beneficiary institutions received Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) comprising 25 boxes of sanitisers, 15 boxes of liquid soap, and 10 packs of kitchen rolls.
The donation is to equip the personnel of the said institutions to contain the spread of the coronavirus at a time a second wave of the disease is reportedly in the air.
Last week, the Subin also donated 40 desktop computers with Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to the Awere M.A. Basic School, AME Zion Junior High School (JHS), Adum Presby, and the Obiri Yeboah JHS, all in the Subin Constituency, to promote the study of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Meanwhile, the Subin MP has completed a mass National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration exercise for his at Baamu-Dominase, Nsuase, Fante New Town, Asem, Asafo, Amakom, Dadiesoaba, Afful Nkwanta, Anlo Fante New Town electoral areas of the Subin Constituency.
The exercise was fully paid for by MP Eugene Boakye Antwi as part of the retail campaign towards Elections 2020.
The mass registration exercise is intended to afford Subin constituents fresh enrolment or renewed registrations on the NHIS database.
