The Central Regional branch of Alliance of Drivers Ghana, which claim to be the mother association of all drivers in the country, has unanimously endorsed President Nana Akufo Addo in the run up to the December polls.
The association has also resolved to support all NPP Parliamentary Candidates in the various constituencies in the region so as to ensure a resounding victory for the NPP in the region.
This was made known by the group during a press conference held at the Abura Taxi rank in the Cape Coast North Constituency yesterday.
Their decision was based on their claim that the Akufo-Addo government has done so much for Ghanaian drivers and Ghanaians at large, more than any government has done in its first term.
According to the group, the Akufo Addo administration has implemented a number of interventions that have ameliorated their plight as drivers, adding that those initiatives needed to be safeguarded by retaining the government.
They pointed out that government has successfully implemented the Instant Driving Licenses policy which allowed drivers to have easy access to driving license upon application and renewal.
They further alleged that the cost of third-party insurance policy kept galloping with frequent increments under the erstwhile NDC administration, but it has been maintained and stabilised by this government
They also mentioned the successful implementation of the famous Free SHS policy, which has made it possible for their wards to access secondary education for free, to buttress their decision.
Numerating other initiatives by the government to merit their unflinching support, they mentioned that there had been significant reduction of the cost of acquiring and renewing driving license.
They stated that a proposed implementation of towing levy that would have had dire consequence on vehicle users had been abandoned by the government
“We, therefore, need to show our sincere appreciation and gratitude to President Akufo-Addo by voting massively for the NPP to renew his mandate”, they stated.
Government, they said, had upgraded license B category which permitted holders to drive sprinter cars and other 14-passenger vehicles without being troubled by the police.
“Across the length and breadth of this country, we have witnessed massive road infrastructure, from the construction of new roads, to the construction of interchanges, to the asphalting of roads among many others”. They posited. “We are also using this opportunity to urge all Ghanaians to vote for the NPP to continue the many good works they have started. It is on the basis of this that this press conference is dubbed NANA TOASO”. They saidThe was read by Mr Francis Gyando, the treasurer of the alliance
