Baobab Children Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has donated personal protective equipment to ten schools and two health posts in its operational catchment areas to help fight the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The items were made up of 2,000 pieces of face marks, ten large sized Veronica buckets and accessories, quantities of tissue paper, and twenty gallons of hand sanitiser and liquid soap.
Beneficiary schools/health posts
The schools were the Baobab Training Centre, Dompoase Kokwado, Kwahin Krom, Kissi A&B, Kissi English and Arabic, Kyease M/A, Kissi Ebenezer Methodist, Anwim Junior High Schools and Kissi A&B Primary
The Kissi Health Centre and Anwim Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound were the other health posts that benefited from Boabab’s kind donations.
The General Manager of Baobab, Alhaji Issaka, who led a team of staff to present the items, told the media that it formed part of Baobab’s social corporate responsibility and desire to assist in the fight against the pandemic.
“When the virus started spreading across the country some months ago, we gave out nose masks and hand sanitisers to some of the schools and some market women, which many cheerfully acknowledged,” he said.
He added that the centre noticed that some of the Veronica buckets meant for regular hand washing at the beneficiary institutions were problematic, and also too easy to be taken away from their vantage points.
In view this, he said, with financial support from Deutsche Zusammenarbeit, Baobab procured more user-friendly buckets with their accessories and all the aforementioned items for onward presentation to the named facilities.
According to Alhaji Issaka, the virus has not died down completely, adding that there was still the need for all the various laid down protocols, including regular hand washing, wearing of face masks and social distancing, to be observed at all times
A Senior Midwifery Officer in charge of the Maternity Unit at the Kissi Health Centre, Madam Patricia Djimate, received the items on behalf of the staff and Physician Assistant of the facility.
She described the bucket with its complete accessories that allowed the user to draw both liquid soap and water from different angles without touching and turning taps, as fit for purpose and a more improved one.
She further expressed heartfelt appreciation to Baobab for the continuous support to the centre, and appealed to Baobab to continue to remember the health centre anytime it decides to do any further donations.
Teachers and pupils of the beneficiary schools expressed joy and gratitude to Baobab for coming to them with the improved Veronica buckets and other items.
Mr Joseph Obeng Hammond, Assistant Headmaster of Dompoase Kokwado School, who received the items, thanked Alhaji Issaka and his team for coming to their aid.
He noted that the bucket was more durable as compared to the one used by the school, and, therefore, promised to take good care of it so that it could serve its intended purpose.
Ghana recently experienced what appeared to be a spike of the Coronavirus pandemic, as some new cases were recorded after some of the stringent protocols were relaxed.
It has, therefore, become imperative for the citizenry to continue to strictly abide by all the measures put in place, including social distancing and the wearing of masks, to prevent further spread.
