The Ghana Water Company Ladies Association has commissioned a borehole for Hwebaa community in the Ahafo South West District in the Ashanti Region to serve as a source of potable water for the residents.
Mrs. Solace Akumeah, National Secretary and Public Relations Manager at Accra West, at the inaugural ceremony explained that the initiative was borne out of their Miss Ghana Water pageant as part of activities which marked the association’s anniversary.
Mrs. Adelaide Denkye and Mrs. Eva Ofori Atta, winners of the pageant, explained that they chose Hwebaa community based on the plight of women, especially pregnant women, who had to trek long distances before they could get access to water for their house chores.
Engineer Michael Botse, Patron to the Association and Guest of Honour at the ceremony, tasked the residents, especially opinion leaders in the community, to cultivate the attitude of maintenance to ensure that the GH¢82,000 project lasts longer to serve the people and generations to come.
Mr. Johnson Kwaku Adu, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, commended the association, and Ghana Water Company as a whole, for the laudable initiative, which, he said, would go a long way to serve as relief for the suffering women in the community.
Nana Asiedu Barimah, Chief of Hwebaa, expressed his profound gratitude to the Ghana Water Company Limited Ladies Association, and appealed to the donor to consider providing an additional borehole to serve the ever-growing population of the community
