171 Professional Law Students have been inducted into the Kumasi Campus of the Ghana School of Law, with a call on them to inculcate volunteerism, more justice and selflessness, instead of income, in their line of duty.
His Lordship Justice Kofi Akrowiah, a Presiding High Court Judge who was the Guest Speaker at the maiden induction ceremony, entreated the students to demonstrate distinguished lifestyles that will reflect on the profession, as society expects more from them.
He stressed the need to be of good behaviour, outstanding and intelligent by ensuring that the poor are not rejected in seeking justice, and make the profession honourable.
According to him, the School of Law was established for those who could justify themselves as outstanding and intelligent, the reason why the Legon Campus was the only Law School with the aim of enhancing quality and standards.
Justice Akrowiah further entreated the students to take their studies seriously and be interested in current affairs and international news to keep them abreast with issues at hand, and read opinions themselves rather than relying on other channels.
Mr. Maxwell Opoku Agyemang, Acting Director of Legal Education at the Ghana School of Law, stated that the tradition of the induction would make the students become part and members of Ghana School of Law, and urged them to uphold the habit of hard work integrity and respect for the bench.
He revealed that student enrolment had increased from 128 in 2018-2019 to over a 1,000 in 2020, making the three campuses over-stretched, especially at the main campus, resulting in a triple track system, and urged them to use the opportunity to motivate themselves to complete the course.
Marries Louise Simone, Vice President of the Ashanti Regional Kumasi Bar Association, entreated the law students to stick to the virtue of life, show respect to the elderly and their lecturers, and protect the ethics and rules of the profession.
She also tasked them to distinguish their lifestyles in society while inculcating good behavioural attitudes in the line of duty.
