The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has been adjudged the best Technical University in Ghana in the recent publication by the Webometrics Ranking of world universities.
KsTU was ranked first among the Technical universities in Ghana and 8th among all Ghanaian tertiary institutions, comprising both the public and private universities.
The ranking thus makes KsTU the topmost Technical University in Ghana.
Among the 68 Ghanaian tertiary institutions that made it to the list that were featured on the latest ranking, the University of Ghana, Legon; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Cape Coast were first, second and third respectively.
The indicators for the ranking are presence (public knowledge shared), impact (web contents impact), openness (top cited researchers) and Excellence (top cited papers)
The Webometrics Ranking of world universities is one the largest ranking system for all universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the web content (number of web pages and files and the visibility and impact of these web publications, according to the number of external links they receive.
The ranking is published by the cyber metrics lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), located in Madrid.
The aim of the ranking is to improve the presence of the academic and research institutions on the web and also to promote the open access to publications of scientific results. The ranking which started in 2004 is updated every January and July.
