The Vice Chancellor of KsTU, Ing Professor Nana Osei-WusuAchaw, addressing the 16th Congregation at the weekend also appealed to the government to extend the free WiFi programme to Technical universities, so that the burden of providing internet service will be minimised and to enable staff and students to undertake virtual learning activities, noting that the student to staff ration is currently unusually high.
Ing. Nana Osei-WusuAchaw noted that during 2019 / 2020 academic year 3,546 were awarded with various certificates at this year’s congregation.
He said two graduands are on record to have graduated with Masters in Technology (MTech), 591 with Bachelor of Technology and Higher National Diploma – 2,004 graduated with professional Diploma, 227 graduands and 722 graduands in ordinary Diploma.
The Vice Chancellor said while the University was dispatching 3,546 graduands into the world of work this year, it has also admitted over 6,000 fresh students, thereby making its population 13,000 – including 35 graduate students and 24 international students .
He also disclosed that the institution experienced an increasing number of females enrolling into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programme, representing 25% increment in female admissions over last year’s figure, which situation was attributed to the special scholarship package to female students who enroll into KsTU’s STEM programme.
Ing. Professor Nana Osei-Wusu Achaw disclosed that in order to accommodate more students, the University has entered into private public partnerships to construct hostels for its students.
According to him, KsTU’s AVIC project at Adako Jachie campus, meant to provide workshops and laboratories to its STEM programme is scheduled to be completed in July, this year.
He added that, in the next few weeks, the university will cut the sod to begin the construction of an ultra-modern faculty of Creative Arts building, while plans are afoot to construct a new School of Engineering and a Business Incubation centre on its Kuntanse and Piase lands respectively.
In its quest to become a world class Technical University, the Vice Chancellor said KsTU has expanded its international collaborations and instituted 24 collaborative arrangements with academic institutions across all continents of the world.
The Vice Chancellor commended the academic staff, whose hard work and commitment contributed to KsTU being adjudged the best Technical University among the 10 Technical Universities in Ghana and 8th among all the 68 Universities in the country.
