The Bono Region has recorded a total of 1,095 cases with 27 deaths as of Tuesday, March 2, 2021. There are 178 active cases with one in a critical state.
Dr Amo-Kodieh, Bono Regional Director of the Ghana Health Services, said this at a media interaction in Sunyani.
According to the health director, it is as part of measures to manage the pandemic that the country has taken delivery of 600,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines.
He allayed fears among a section of the public that the COVID-19 vaccines could pose danger to their health.
Dr Amo-Kodieh said: “This is the first consignment of many to come. Ghana plans to vaccinate over 20million people in segments until all people are vaccinated”, he said and explained that “the segmentation will be by population groups and geographical location.”
He continued that: “It is important to vaccinate because we are at risk of serious illness and disability from COVID- 19 complications such as pneumonia, kidney, and lung problem.”
He stressed that “many of these diseases can be life-threatening. By getting vaccinated against COVID-19, you protect yourselves and protect those around you.”
Dr Amo-Kodieh further explained that “the Coronavirus vaccine would be given as an injection on the left upper arm by a trained health worker. A new needle and syringe would be used for every person and thereafter destroyed automatically.”
The Deputy Bono Regional Director of Public Health, Dr. John EkowOtoo, said every health facility in the region is empowered to handle COVID-19 suspected cases. He therefore advised the public to avoid self-medication and to visit health facilities when sick.
The Bono Regional Chairman of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr Alexander Egotey, said the AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine is safe and called on Ghanaians to take the vaccine. He urged the public to adhere to all the safety protocols and government restrictions to prevent the spread of the disease even after vaccination.
