Some residents of six communities, all farmers, in the West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region are seeking answers to the underdeveloped state of their areas.
The communities, comprising Afranse Yaw Tano, Obotwene, Amantra, Esasseh, Asibrim and Odumama, are appealing to the government, and for that matter the Municipal Assembly, to come to their aid and assist them with some basic social amenities.
The six communities, since their inception, cannot boast of graveled roads, electricity, potable drinking water, school buildings, telecommunication network and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound.
The road networks from these communities connect them to the Asamankese-Suhum Highway and are so bad making movement of people and goods extremely difficult.
Expressing their displeasure at the situation, some of the residents noted that the damaged roads and bridges are slowing down businesses activities, so they are pleading with the government to come to their aid as early as possible.
Speaking with the Assembly Member for Afranse Electoral Area, Mr. Abdul Jalilu Aliyu, he said the challenges in his electoral area are many, and need urgent action, since people living in these communities are farmers, but face a lot of challenges on roads, healthcare, electricity, water, and access to quality education, and others.
Pregnant women in labor are carried on wooden doors to the Asamankese-Suhum road before “we get access to vehicle to the hospital at Asamankese, and in some instances, some of the women die because of bad roads and no healthcare centers.
