New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has revealed that the government owes him a whopping GHC 100 million for the construction of roads he pre-financed.
The vociferous party Chairman told groups of party activists on tape, in separate meetings in Kumasi, in his bid to seek re-election that he finances contracts through loan facilities from the banks.
According to him, the government does not pay him the required 20% mobilisation fee for contracts, hence the accumulated GHC100 million indebtedness.
He claimed that he is the only NPP man to have ventured into road construction, yet he has not been awarded a single contract by the Roads Minister, who does not even know how he comes by the contracts.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako, who also answers to Chairman Wontumi, said even though he is yet to attain the required four year experience in road construction, he has adopted the strategy of buying contracts to stay in business to enable him finance party activities.
According to him, the road construction industry is a capital intensive one for which reason he pays 10% to colleague contractors like Akwasi Addai Odike and Kofi Akpaloo to take over contracts awarded them, just as the NDC contractors did in order to stay in business.
He wondered why he is not getting contracts when Messrs Joshob, Attachy Construction and Kofi Job are all being awarded contracts.
Chairman Wontumi also accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of collapsing his mining business and announced plans of reviving it.
