Some determined youth of Gbetsile have arrested three land guards suspected of terrorising innocent developers and residents, who have genuinely acquired lands from the Stool.
The chief of Gbetsile, Nii Amankwah Sune l, led the youth to arrest the suspected landguards at Bumper junction, a suburb of Gbetsile.
For decades now, the activities of armed land guards has become a huge problem in Gbetsile, as all efforts to flush out such unscrupulous criminals have proved futile.
However, the youth and indigenes of the community, with the support of the Stool, have expressed their determination to halt the activities of land guards who are terrorising innocent residents.
According to the Gbetsile Stool, some of the land guards have been ‘imported’ into the area to do the bidding of some selfish individuals who claim to be royals and want to sell Stool lands, which Nii Amankwah Sune I has sworn to protect for key developmental projects ever since he was initiated and enstooled about a decade ago. Nii Sune I has cautioned the land guards to stay away from Gbetsile or face the wrath of the youth.
It, therefore, came as good news to the community when three suspected land guards were arrested by the youth on May 11, this year.
Addressing the media, the Stool Secretary for Gbetsile, Samuel Tetteh, said on that fateful day, the Stool picked intelligence that some persons had been sent to Gbetsile to forcefully claim some lands from the rightful owners.
“A team of officials from the palace and the youth went to the area where the suspected land guards had converged. On seeing the delegation from the palace, they pulled guns at us, but the angry youth put their lives on the line and helped to arrest them at Bumper junction. The suspected land guards gave their names as Isaac, Amos and Nii,” he explained.
Samuel Tetteh said Nii Amankwah Sune l and the Stool are committed to ensure that the right things are done to bring the right developmental projects to Gbetsile.
“The Stool will not condone land guard activities anymore, because Gbetsile is led by a law-abiding chief who wants peace for his people. Since he assumed the seat, Nii Amankwah Sune l has been working hard and lobbying for developments for his people and the people have also resolved to support him, Gbetsile is developing for all of us,” he concluded.
