Three persons, two women and a man, died on Wednesday at Nkatieso site, Brofoyedru in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.
Two of the deceased were identified as; Kwasi Yeboa, 24 and Faba Tie,13. Their bodies have been deposited at the Dunkwa Government Hospital mortuary.
When The Chronicle visited the scene of the incident, an excavator brought in by the police and the District Security Committee (DISEC) was seen seriously working to find bodies believed to have been trapped in the rubble.
Briefing newsmen, the assemblyman for Breman/BrofoyedruElectorial Area of the Upper Denkyira West Assembly, Mr. Francis Ankapong noted that since ‘Operation Halt’ began some weeks ago, work at the site has stopped completely and do not understand how some groups could clandestinely go there to search for gold.
On his part, the Dunkwa Acting Divisional crime officer, Chief Inspector Kofi Obese Yeboah said the search for more bodies will continue. He stated that two persons OpaninKwakuAppiah and John Appiah believed to be owners of the site have been arrested to assist in investigations.
